Far from nourishing us, piles of plastic trash put our health and communities at risk.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asyousow.org\/reports\/plastic-pollution-scorecard-2021\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 50 companies, Whole Foods\u2019 plastic policies are among the worst. The company earned an \u201cF,\u201d putting it behind other major retailers such as Walmart and Kroger.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whole Foods can and must do more to reduce its contribution to the plastic waste crisis.<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How did Whole Foods earn its failing grade on plastic?<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company has failed to embrace reusable packaging, and it hasn't been transparent about the packaging materials it does use. The good news, though, is that Whole Foods can make a huge impact if it acts right now. The company can set a valuable example for others in the industry to follow by making a bold, time-bound commitment to reducing its plastic footprint.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right now, convincing companies like Whole Foods to do the right thing on plastic pollution is more important than ever.<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To cut plastic waste we need to use less in the first place<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 91% of plastic is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.org\/article\/whopping-91-percent-plastic-isnt-recycled\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">never recycled<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, even though so many of us carefully sort plastic into the recycling bin.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can\u2019t solve the plastic problem with recycling alone.
