These airborne toxics can do <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/newsreleases\/biden-harris-administration-proposes-strengthen-mercury-and-air-toxics-standards-power\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">irreparable harm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to growing brains and cause cognitive impairments in children.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news is that we have a chance to cut down the levels of these deadly pollutants right now. The Biden administration is proposing new limitations on mercury and other toxic air pollution emitted from fossil fuel-powered power plants.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Add your name to show your support of stronger toxic pollution standards for fossil fuel power plants.<\/b>\r\n<h3><strong>Mercury pollution still threatens our health<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mercury and Air Toxics Standards were first enacted in 2011, and they\u2019ve already saved tens of thousands of lives. But mercury pollution is still poisoning our air today. <\/span><b>Continuing to improve our air quality can mean the difference between being sick or being healthy \u2014 or between life and death.<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cocktail of toxic metals emitted from power plants have been linked to cancer, and can even cause fatal heart attacks. And mercury alone can cause <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/05\/politics\/epa-mercury-power-plant-rules-climate\/index.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">damage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to a laundry list of bodily systems: The brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and immune system of people of any age are at risk.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposed rules will <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-proposes-tighter-mercury-air-toxics-standards-power-plants-2023-04-05\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cut back<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on toxic emissions by about two-thirds \u2014 a lifesaving difference for communities in the shadow of fossil fuel plants.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is looking for public comments to help finalize its new rules \u2014 so we need to make sure our voices are louder than those of the fossil fuel industry.<\/b>\r\n<h3><strong>A future without the threat of toxic mercury pollution is possible<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best way to cut this kind of toxic pollution out of our lives would be to stop relying on fossil fuels for power at all.
